B. E. Rhinehart, 84, attorney in Anamosa for 56 years, died in Mercy hospital, Anamosa, Saturday, Sept. 19, after an illness of 10 days.

Masonic funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, at the Baptist church. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery. Goettsch funeral home is handling arrangements.

Bennett E. Rhinehart was born in Pennsylvania, Nov. 27, 1868, the son of Nennett and Catherine Rhinehart. He came to Iowa with his parents when he was three months of age, locating in Taylor county, near Bedford.

Mr. Rhinehart was graduated from Bedford high school in 1891, and received degree of bachelor of law from Iowa college of Law, now Drake university, Des Moines, May 18, 1896.

Rhinehart began practice of law in Anamosa, Jan. 1, 1897. Three years later he entered into partnership with Charles J. Cash, sr., and in 1908, M. W. Herrick joined the firm. This partnership terminated in 1913. He practiced alone until partnership of Rhinehart and McLaughlin was formed May 1, 1927. This partnership with Glen J. McLaughlin was terminated by Mr. Rhinehart's death.

He has also served as county attorney of Jones county from 1917 to 1925 and United States attorney for the Northern district of Iowa from 1927 to 1931. He also served several terms as city attorney.

Besides his practice of law, Mr. Rhinehart served as president of the Citizens Savings bank two years and was vice-president for 25 years. He has been director of Citizens Saving bank, Anamosa, and Farmers Savings bank, Martelle, for many years.

He was married to Julia Florence Feehan, Anamosa, March 1, 1894. She died in 1941. On June 10, 1952, he was married to Mrs. Charlotte Page Hartmann, who died in March, 1953.

Mr. Rhinehart was one of five children, two of who preceded him in death. Two sisters survive: Ida Smith, Waters, Okla., and Evelyn Jefferson, Oklahoma City, Okla.

He was a member of the Baptist church. Mr. Rhinehart is also a member of Iowa State and Jones County Bar associations, served as past grand chancellor of State of Iowa Knights of Pythias, 1924-25, is a member of Anamosa Lodge 46 A.F. & A.M., Mount Sinai chapter 66 R.A.M., and Mount Olivet Cammandery No. 36 Knights Templar, Sumner Lodge 92 K.P.

He is a 50-year member of El Kahir temple of the Shrine, Cedar Rapids.
