May 25, 1953 - The Anamosa Journal

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, from the Congregational church, for Mrs. Roscoe H. Lincoln, 63, who died Thursday in a car-train accident in Marion. Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln moved to Marion in January, 1951, after having lived most of their life in the Amber neighborhood.

Services were conducted by the Rev. C. V. R. DeJong, pastor of the Marion Presbyterian church, of which Mrs. Lincoln was a member. Burial was in the Amber cemetery with the Goettsch funeral home handling arrangements.

Mrs. Lincoln was killed when the car in which she was riding collided with the Hiawatha streamliner at the Nineteenth street crossing in Marion Thursday at 3:40 p.m.

Mr. Lincoln was taken by ambulance to St. Luke's hospital where his condition is reported as critical. He suffered severe shock, a possible fracture left ankle, cuts and bruises above the left eye, severe laceration of the left wrist and possible internal injuries.

According to witnesses, Mr. Lincoln was driving west on Sixth avenue, which parallels the Milwaukee railroad main line, and at Nineteenth street turned right, driving directly into the path of the speeding streamliner.

The car, hit on the right side by the train, was carried a distance of 160 feet before it was thrown off into the ditch. Mrs. Lincoln was hurled from the car after it had been carried that distance, and was instantly killed.

Car was demolished, and a parked auto nearby was struck by flying debris. The train was apparently not damaged.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Lincoln is survived by two sons, Lowell and Robert; a daughter, Mrs. Glen Simmons; four grandchildren, and a brother, Lloyd Robertson, all of Anamosa.
