Mrs. Augusta Walter, 82, longtime Jones county resident, died suddenly Thursday, May 7, at Onslow, where she had made her home for the past three months.

Funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 10, at the Goettsch funeral home. Rev. Walter D. Wigger officiated. Burial was in the Amber cemetery. Nephews served as casket bearers.

Augusta Minnie Michels, oldest child of Carl and Eilsa Michels, was born in Germany, May 5, 1871.

She came to the United States with her parents at the age of two. They resided in Clinton county. She was married in 1899 to Henry Walter at Clinton. Three children were born to this union.,

In 1912 the family moved to Canada, where they farmed and were active in many organizations and civic affairs.

Mr. Walter died in Canada in 1940. Mrs. Walter returned to Jones county in 1941, where she has resided in Anamosa and the last three months at Onslow.

Mrs. Walter was baptized in the Lutheran faith while in Germany, and attended various churches until her death.

Besides her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Rosa Bartlet and Mrs. Ida Gage; two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

Surviving are her son, Albert H. Walter, Outlook, Sask., Canada; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Henry Holmes, Anamosa; five brothers, Ed, Dowagiac, Mich.; William, Onslow; Gus, Taft, Fla.; and John, Aledo, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
