CENTER JCT. - Funeral services for Samuel G. Thompson, 79, long-time Center Jct. resident, will be held Friday, July 28, at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian church. The Revs. John C. Beran, Rueben Tjaden and Theodore Neely will officiate. Interment will be in the Scotch Grove cemetery.

Mr. Thompson died Monday evening, July 24, at St. Luke's hospital, Cedar Rapids, where he had been hospitalized since July 15. He had undergone surgery July 17.

He was born Sept. 10, 1887, in Buffalo county, South Dakota, the son of John and Mary Guthrie Thompson. He came to the Center Jct. area at the age of six. He attended public schools in the area, Lenox college, Hopkinton, and State University of Iowa, Iowa City. On Aug. 25, 1902, he married Grace H. Moats.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian church and was ordained as an elder April 6, 1919. He served as clerk of the session consecutively for 20 years. He was commissioned as a layman to the General Assembly three times.

In 1949 he received a certificate of recognition from the young people of the church and the Board of Christian Education for his work among the youth.

He was a farmer and cattleman, dealing with sales throughout the Midwest for many years. He was manager of the Iowa Livestock association and was associated with the Page and Birmingham Livestock companies.

He was a member of the Fraternity Masonic lodge at Onslow.

He was preceded in death by one grandchild.

He is survived by: his wife; four children, Lyle of Bozeman, Mont., Lyman D. of Wyoming, Mrs. Catherine Ralston of Oklahoma City, Okla, and Richard of Salem, Ill.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Margaret and Isabel Thompson.

Pallbearers will be David Thompson, Howard Vernon, John Ralston, Sammy Thompson, Eddie Thompson and Bill Moats.
