MONTICELLO - Funeral services for Samuel Semmert, 84, were held at Goettsch funeral home Friday afternoon, Sept. 29. The Rev. Allen S. Van Cleve officiated and interment was in Oakwood cemetery.

Mr. Semmert died at Mercy hospital, Cedar Rapids, Sept. 26 following several weeks illness. He was born at Dubuque May 25, 1883, the son of Nickolas and Barbara Loetscher Semmert.

He received his education in the Dubuque schools and was a graduate engineer from Highland Park university, Des Moines.

He was married to Freda Balsiger at Monticello Jan. 25, 1911, and they lived in the Monticello community until 1941 when they moved to Cedar Rapids. He was a cabinetmaker for many years.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, his parents, four brothers, and three sisters.

Survivors include: his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Glenn (Evelyn) Streets, Anamosa, and Mrs. George (Eldora) Schmidt, Monticello; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Anna Balsiger, Sherwood, Ore.
