ONSLOW - Funeral services for Mrs. W. A. (Fannie) Hicks, 85, former Express correspondent, were held Friday afternoon, May 26, at Hayden Funeral home in Wyoming.

The Rev. Theodore Neely, pastor of the Onslow Presbyterian church, officiated. Burial was in Clay cemetery.

Mrs. Hicks died May 24 at the Wyoming nursing home after a long illness.

She was well known to Express readers, having served as correspondent for the Onslow area for 38 years. She began her writing career in 1929 and served until ill health forced her to resign last February.

Born Sept.25, 1883 in Scotch Grove township, Mrs. Hicks was the daughter of Thomas L. and Mabel DuBois Green. She graduated from State College of Iowa in 1902 and taught in rural schools in Jones county for several years.

She was married to Ward Hicks in 1903. He died in 1938. She was a lifetime resident of the Onslow area.

She was a member of the Alturian club, Royal Neighbors and the Onslow Presbyterian church.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Mabel Paulsen, Scotch Grove; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and one brother.
