Funeral services for John P. Holmes, 66, Anamosa, were held Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 1:30 p.m. at Goettsch Funeral home of Anamosa with Rev. David Yeend conducting the services. Burial was in the Castle Grove cemetery. Mr. Holmes died at the Soldiers home in Marshalltown where he had been a patient for the last year.

He was born Dec. 20, 1892, the son of George and Marie Jacklyn Holmes in Castle Grove township. He married Marjorie Taylor and they farmed in Jones county for a few years. He later worked for the county in the highway department. He served in World War I in General Pershing's honor guard.

He is survived by his wife; six daughters, Mrs. Ted (Wilma) Hurt and Mrs. William (Mary) Jones, both of Anamosa, Mrs. Arthur (Marjorie) Holub of Wyoming, Mrs. Warren (Joyce) Farrington of Prairieburg, Mrs. Junior (Dorothy) Lange of Marion, Mrs. Richard (Patricia) Sobotka of Anchorage, Alaska; two brothers, Geroge of Bellevue and William of Monticello; three sisters, Mrs. Charles O'Rourke of Highmore, S.D., Mrs. Robert Aldrich of Monticello, Mrs. Alva Taylor of Las Vegas, Nev. and 19 grandchildren.
