Services were held Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Goettsch funeral home for Mrs. Catherine M. Zimmerman who passed away suddenly Wednesday night following a lingering illness. Services were held at 2 p.m. at the Wayne Zion church following services at the funeral home at 1:15 p.m.

Catherine Margaretha Alwine. daughter of Henrick and Anna Helgens Doering, was born Aug. 7, 1870 in Wayne township. As a child she attended school in that township.

On Feb. 25, 1890, she was married to William Rieken Zimmerman by the Rev. Christoph Mardorf at the Wayne Zion Lutheran church. They became the parents of five daughters. Mr. and Mrs. Zimmerman observed their golden wedding anniversary with their family in 1940.

For 30 years they made their home on their farm near Amber where Mrs. Zimmerman remained until her demise. She was preceded in death by her husband on January 9 of last year.

Surviving are her five daughters: Anna, Mrs. Paul Hanken, Marion, S.D.; Minnie, Mrs. Arthur T. Carlsen, Camanche; Hattie, Mrs. William T. Jansen, Amber; Rena, Mrs. O. F. Otten, Sioux Falls, S.D., and Freda, Mrs. Alva Gerdes, Amber. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; three sisters and four brothers. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. G. A. Young who died in Hawaii, and a brother, Albert Doering.

Pallbearers included William Helgens, Carl Siebels, Herman Herren, Hank Siebels, John Husmann and William Behrends. Burial was made at the Wayne cemetery.
