George C. Brown, former resident of Monticello, died Sept. 27, in Savanna, Ill. Funeral services were conducted there on Sept. 28 with graveside services at Oakwood cemetery here at 3:30.

He was born at Monticello, Iowa on April 4, 1887, the son of Charles M. Brown and Henrietta Stone Brown. His marriage to Genevive M. Nash took place at Monticello, April 26, 1911.

His railroad career started in October of 1913, which gives Mr. Brown 38 years of service with the C.M.ST.P. & P. Railroad.

In the year 1917, Mr. and Mrs. Brown undertook to rear a nephew, Earl F. Hart, who also survives. In the year 1933 they also undertook the rearing of another child, Joan Adair Steed. The past three years Mr. and Mrs. Brown have shared their home with Mrs. Mary Hart, Judy Adair Hart, Kathleen Maree Hart and George William Hart. The latter three children of Mary Miller Hart and Earl F. Hart.

Surviving are his wife, one brother, Burton Brown of Anamosa, one sister, Mrs. Elsie Hughes of Dialville, Texas, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceeded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
