21 June 1951 - Monticello Express

What is believed to be the first traffic fatality in Anamosa in at least the last 25 years occurred Monday evening.

George Stimpson, 20, son of former State Representative and Mrs. Thomas Stimpson of Anamosa, was killed about 6 p.m. when his motorcycle crashed into a telephone pole at the northeast edge of the city on highway 151.

John Bickford, 20, also of Anamosa, who was riding on the back of the motorcycle, suffered a slight concussion. He was reported in good condition at Mercy hospital.

Highway Patrolman John Beckmann, who investigated the accident, said that according to a witness, the kick stand on the motorcycle fell down throwing the vehicle to the shoulder and into the pole.

Surviving, besides his parents, are a brother, John of Anamosa, and four sisters, Eunice, Barbara and Mrs. Bud Brickley of Anamosa, and Mrs. Anna Angus, Atchison, Ill.
