Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the St. John's Lutheran church for Ludwig Arnold Oltman, 69, who died suddenly at his home in Monticello early Sunday, Nov. 25, having been in failing health for a number of years. Rev. R. P. Young was in charge of the funeral services; burial was in Oakwood cemetery.

Mr. Oltman was born in Scotch Grove township on March 8, 1882, the son of Harm Oltman and Deborah Reimers Oltman. He attended rural schools in the township and Concordia college in St. Louis, Mo.

On February 14, 1912, he was married to Matilda Jacobs. The couple made their home in Wayne township for 10 years and in Scotch Grove township for 18 more years, moving to Monticello in 1940 after which he was employed in the J. B. Zimmerman Men's Clothing Store until retirement in 1949. He served as assessor in Scotch Grove and Wayne townships for a number of years.

Mr. Oltman was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran church, serving in various high offices of the church, and was Sunday school superintendent and teacher for a number of years. He was the last member of his family.

Survivors include his wife and two daughters, Luella, Mrs. Howard Schraffenberger, Chicago, and Pauline, Mrs. Marvin Lacock, Wyoming; two sons-in-law; and two grandchildren, Ruth Ann and John Louis Lacock. He was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers: Mrs. Margaret Stadtmueller, Mrs. Freda Schuetz, John, George, William and Harvey.

Pallbearers at the funeral Tuesday afternoon included Clarence Kuriger, Frederick W. Hanken, Vernon Null, Henry Bohlken, Joe Heeren and Louis Heeren.

The Goettsch Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
