Bernard R. Boots, 67, of Olin died Thursday, Feb. 1, 1990 at Anamosa Community Hospital.

He was born Nov. 19, 1922 near Morley, the son of Arthur and Theresa Young Boots and received his education in the Morley and Wyoming schools.

As a very young man, Bernard began working on farms and July 1, 1947 he married Geraldine Thumma Sweet at Maquoketa. The couple began farming. After 13 years he accepted the position as Olin City policeman and stayed on for six years. Bernard then started Boots Trucking in Olin which he operated until he retired.

He was a long time member of the Olin Volunteer Fire Department and served several years as an Olin Ambulance Volunteer.

Surviving him are his wife Geraldine; one stepson Harold Sweet of Olin; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Albert of Wyoming, Howard of Marion, and Arthur Jr., of Anamosa; and one sister, Mrs. Katherine Whittemore of Wyoming.

His parents and a stepson, Marion Sweet, preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 5, 1990 at the Hayden Funeral Home in Olin, the Rev. Vernon Peverill officiating. Burial was in Olin Cemetery. Casketbearers were Monte Sauer, Steve Wink, Bob Davis, Rodney Cozart, Steve Robinson, and Ron Conley.
