Funeral service for Sophia D. Gilmore, 82, Olin, who died at Anamosa hospital on July 30, was held August 3, at the Methodist Church in Olin, with Pastor Ed Peterson officiating. Hayden Funeral Homes were in charge of arrangements.

Burial was in the Olin cemetery. Pallbearers were Joe Soper, Joe Levsen, Dale Groth, Marlin Laetare, Donald Starry and Max Levsen.

Sophia, daughter of Peter and Helen Andresen Laetare, was born in Jones County, February 8, 1900. She was the only sister of seven brothers, John, Carl, August, Ernest, Walter, Leonard and Edmund. Sophia was telephone operator in Olin from the early 30's until her marriage to Art Gilmore in 1945. She was postmaster in Hale, and she and Art ran the Hale General store from 1947-1961 when they retired. She then returned to Olin where she was active with her hobby of gardening, her membership in the Methodist church, the Friendship club and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Surviving are her two sons, Ralph Joura, Interlochen, FL, and Arthur Joura, Des Moines; four brothers, John, Center Point; August and Walter, Olin and Leonard, Rawlings, Wy.

Preceding her in death were one daughter, Helen Farmer, her parents, her husband, and three brothers.
