Services for Walter S. Eby, 85, were held April 12 at the Goettsch Funeral Home Monticello. Burial followed in the Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello. The Rev. Willis Longer conducted the services.

Walter S. Eby died in the John McDonald Hospital, Monticello, April 10, after a brief illness.

Walter Sidney Eby was born near Scotch Grove on Nov. 15, 1896. He was the son of Benjamin Eby and Bertha Ralston Eby and had received his early education in the Scotch Grove area schools.

Mr. Eby chose farming as his life's vocation, and had lived in the Scotch Grove area his entire life. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Scotch Grove, and was a member of the Scotch Grove Coonhunters Club.

Walter Eby and Martha Winans were married in Marion June 17, 1916, and they were the parents of four sons. After the death of his wife on Dec. 13, 1961, he continued making his home near Scotch Grove.

He is survived by four sons, George Eby, Mt. Mesa, Calif., Richard Eby, Cedar Rapids, Harold Eby, Scotch Grove, Theodore Eby, Phoenix, Ariz. He is also survived by five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, a brother, Thaine Eby, Cedar Rapids, and five sisters, Mae, Mrs. Rudolph Ambuehl, Gloria, Mrs. Loren Bobst, both of Monticello, Mrs. Charlotte Young, Cedar Rapids, Frances, Mrs. Robert Kilgore, Davenport and Buelah, Mrs. Robert Carden, Hemet, Calif. He was preceded in death by his wife, two grandsons, his parents, a brother and a sister.

Casketbearers were Louie Hanken, Stuart Leggett, Paul E. Paulsen, Jack Heiken, George W. Bohlken, Glenn Goldsmith.
