Jay F. Taylor, 81, of Onslow died Monday, Jan. 8, 1990 at Davenport Medical Center in Davenport.

Jay was born April 5 , 1908 at Clay Mills, the son of Dave and Grace Moore Taylor. He received his education in country schools near Onslow.

May 5, 1928, Jay married Lena Eye in Jones County. Lena died in 1972. They farmed in the Maquoketa and Onslow areas until 1964 when they moved to Maquoketa and Jay began working as a custodian at the Maquoketa Community Schools. He retired in 1973.

Jay moved to Onslow in 1974 where he lived until his death.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Onslow.

Jay is survived by two sons, Francis of Sylvis, Ill.; and George LaVerne of Onslow; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and one brother, Raymond of Wyoming.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lena, three brothers and one sister.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 11 at the First Presbyterian Church in Onslow with the Rev. Ron Grimes officiating. Burial was in Wyoming Cemetery. Pallbearers were Scott, Darrell, David, Steve and Gary Taylor, and Steve Wild.

Hayden Funeral Home in Wyoming was in charge of arrangements.
