Walter J. Frank, 80, of Olin died Oct. 21 at the Anamosa Care Center.

He was born on September 24, 1900 at Jackson, Wisconsin, the son of Gustov and Anna Garbish Frank.

At the age of 14 Walter was apprenticing in the cheese factory and at age 18 he attended the University of Wisconsin taking an agriculture course on butter and cheese making. After his graduation he devoted his working life to cheese and butter making until retirement in 1962.

Walter and Florence Kersten were married on March 18, 1922, at Antigo, Wisconsin where they lived before moving to Wilson, Michigan and Saukville, Wisconsin. In 1936 they moved to Olin, and he lived there until February of 1979 when ill health forced him to move to a care center.

He was a member of St. John American Lutheran church in Olin.

Surviving him are his wife, Florence; two sons, Gerald of Olin, and Walter, Carlham, Ia.; four daughters, Mrs. Howard "Annette" Willis, Channelview, Texas; Mrs. Grace Norton, Vallejo, California; Mrs. Harold "Betty Jane" Rohwedder, and Mrs. Jack "Linda' Gray, Olin, one half-brother, Rev. Gustov Frank, Ixonia, Wisconsin, one half-sister, Mrs. Della Nemitz, Port Washington, Wisconsin, and two step-sisters, Mrs. Louise Rusch and Mrs. Erna Butzke, Jackson, Wisconsin, 16 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one granddaughter, one sister and three brothers.

Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 23, at St. John American Lutheran Church in Olin with burial in the Olin Cemetery. Rev. Frank Phillips officiated. Organist was Mrs. Larry Scharff and pallbearers were Virgil Vernon, Willard Hoyman, Herbert Lehrman, Virgil Fisher, Fred Reck and Dale Wenndt.
