CENTRAL CITY - Funeral services for George J. Van Buren, 85, former Monticello area resident, were held Friday afternoon, Oct. 27, at the Murdock chapel. The Rev. John Benj. Wild, Monticello, officiated and interment was in Cedar Memorial park, Cedar Rapids.

Mr. Van Buren died Wednesday morning, Oct. 25, in a Cedar Rapids hospital. He was born March 18, 1882, in Hardin county, the son of the Rev. Walter and Celia Bruner Van Buren. On Feb. 25, 1937, he married Harriet J. Lynch at McGregor. Prior to the 19 years spent in the Central City area, the couple lived in the LeRoy, Minn., and Monticello areas.

He was a 1904 graduate of Cornell college, Mt. Vernon, and was past president of the Jones county Farm Bureau. He served as state representative of Jones county in 1928 and 1930.

Mr. Van Buren was a member of the LeRoy, Minn. Masonic lodge and Presbyterian church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Louis; a daughter, Mrs. Helen Spahr, one grandson, and one great-grandson.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Prescott, Grinnell; two sons, John of Backus, Minn. and Paul of Stepels, Minn.; 18 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
