Clara E. Voelker, 89, of Olin died Friday, Jan. 19 at Anamosa Community Hospital in Anamosa.

She was born April 17, 1900 at Wenona, Ill., the daughter of Louis and Emma Pomeranke Wenzloff and received her education at Wenona.

April 20, 1921, Clara married Otto Voelker at Independence. The couple farmed near LaPorte City until 1933 and then in the Olin area until moving to Olin in 1950. Clara worked as a cook at several area restaurants and the Olin Community School during her years in Olin. Otto died in 1973.

Clara was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Olin, the Lutheran Church Women and the Friendship Club.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Cedrick (Kathryn) Ballou of Zephyrhills, Fla.; a son William of Shellsburg; 12 grandchildren, five step grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, five step great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, a daughter Darlene Kox, two sisters and five brothers.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 23 at St. John Lutheran Church in Olin with burial in Olin cemetery. The Rev. WIlliam Peters officiated.

Casketbearers were Robert Ballou, Roger Ballou, Steven Fees, Charles Voelker, Clifford Voelker, and Chris Voelker. Honorary casketbearers were Richard Ballou, Raymond Ballou, Curtis Voelker, Craig Voelker, Calvin Voelker and Dennis Hepkner.

Hayden Funeral Home at Olin was in charge of arrangements.
