Funeral services for John B. Brokens, 81, were held Wednesday afternoon at the St. Matthew's Lutheran church. Rev. H. L. Adix officiated with Rev. Paul Kenyon assisting.

Mr. Brokens died at his home, 322 North Cedar, late Saturday night, after an illness of several years. Burial was in Oakwood cemetery.

Mr. Brokens was born on June 28, 1869 at Reepsholt, Germany, a son of John B. Brokens and Marie (Finkenstadt) Brokens. He came to this country on March 6, 1884 and lived near Monticello.

He was married on April 5, 1893 to Kathryn Kuper in Boulder township of Linn county. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in Monticello on April 5, 1943.

He is survived by his widow, three sons and two daughters. The sons are Fred, William and August Brokens, all of Monticello, and daughters, Mrs. Lee (Emma) Sanford, Monticello, and Mrs. Art (Louise) Keister, Baldwin. Another daughter preceded her father in death.

Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren as well as three sisters, Mrs. Minnie Null, Monticello; Mrs. Mary Zeadow, Sanborn, and Mrs. Margaret Ward, Oxford Junction.

Pallbearers were John Jacobs, Charles Jacobs, John Hinrichs, Elmer Hinrichs, August Kuper, and Raymond Janett.

Goettsch funeral home was in charge of the service.
