Luella V. Appleby, 67, died March 5 at Anamosa.

She was born on November 17, 1914 at Monticello, the daughter of Harry and Sarah (Quaintance) Boots.

After attending Monticello Public Schools, she married Freddie Appleby on December 26, 1931 at Monticello. The couple lived for several years in Hopkinton and then in Anamosa until two years ago when they moved to Olin.

Survivors include 12 children, Mrs. Vivian Mason of Olin, (LaVonnie) Mrs. James Fields of Cascade, (Bernadine) Mrs. Robert DeWald of Oxford Junction, Paul of Cedar Rapids, (Lois) Mrs. Rudolph Ulferts of Springville, Cletus of Cedar Rapids, (Marajo) Mrs. Charles Lewis of Silshee, TX, Larry of Cedar Rapids, Alan at home, Thomas of Cedar Rapids, Timothy at home, (Mary) Mrs. Duane Kaplan of Iowa City; 34 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harry Boots, Jr., and Earl Boots, both of Monticello; and four sisters, Mrs. Loretta Chapman and Mrs. Erma Ehlts of Monticello, Mrs. Ruth Seely of Viola and Mrs. Norma Topping of Waverly.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, one son, two brothers, five grandsons and two great-grandsons.

Services were held Monday, March 8, at Olin United Methodist Church with burial in Oakwood Cemetery at Monticello. Rev. Edward Peterson officiated. Alison and Amy Zimmerman sang a duet and Mrs. Mervin Chamberlin was organist.

Pallbearers were Paul Appleby, Jr., Dennis Fields, Brian Taylor, Cliff Sills, Alfred Sills and Mark Fields.
