Ramona Florence Melchert, Hopkinson, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 Monday morning, November 15, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, Hopkinton. Visitation will be held on Sunday November 14th from 2 - 6 Sunday and again on Monday after 10:00 at St Luke’s Church. A Parish Vigil service will be held at 2:00 on Sunday. Interment will be in the Hopkinton Cemetery. Fr. Paul Baldwin will officiate at the services. Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello has taken Ramona and her family into their care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hopkinton Library, Hopkinton Meal Service, Delaware County Historical Society or Camp Courageous.

Ramona is survived by her 5 children, Doug (Lynne) Melchert, Chuck (Becky) Melchert, Gary (Cindy) Melchert, all of Hopkinton, Nancy (Jeff) Uden, Hudson, Stan (Regan McCarthy) Melchert, Geneseo, IL., a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Melchert, Maynard, 14 Grandchildren, 23 great-Grandchildren with another great grandchild due in January. Sisters-in law’s, Katie Melchert, Therese Melchert, Yvonne Melchert Cole, Jane Melchert and many nieces and nephews.

Ramona was preceded in death by her parents Harvey and Florence Bacon, her husband Al, a son David and first wife Janet, a great-granddaughter, Savvy Ferentz, her sisters, Ione Himebaugh, V. J. Stadtmueller, Lorraine Bacon, and a brother Gene Bacon. Brother-in-law’s, Phil Himebaugh, Mick Stadtmueller, Clarence Melchert, Cliff Melchert, Vernon Melchert, Harry Melchert and sister-in-law, Marie Recker and Laura Melchert.

Ramona Florence Bacon was born, January 30, 1933 at Buck Creek, Iowa. She was the daughter of Harvey and Florence Wilson, Bacon. She received her education at Buck Creek School, graduating with the class of 1950. After graduation She went to work at Collins in Cedar Rapids. On November 4, 1953 she was united in marriage to Alfred Melchert at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, Hopkinton. Ramona thoroughly enjoyed being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Family meant the world to her-besides being a wife, mom, grandma and great grandma she enjoyed working at the Hopkinton Sundries, Bette’s Café and janitress for the Hopkinton Medical Center and Hopkinton Community Center. She served on the Hopkinton Library Board and Delaware County Historical Society and also a member of the Hopkinton Kensington Club.

Ramona played the organ at St. Luke’s Catholic Church and at St. John’s Lutheran Church and also countless weddings and funerals. In her spare time, she loved to crochet, do crafts, scrapbook and collect stamps.
