Mayor Paul Anderson, 72, died suddenly in his home of an apparent heart attack Thursday evening, December 4. Anderson was first appointed Mayor of Oxford Junction in November, 1978 and was then elected in 1979. He had previously served two terms on the City Council. Monte Coon is Mayor Pro-Tem.

Services for Mayor Anderson were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 8 at the Hayden Funeral Home, where Masonic Services were also held on Sunday evening. Burial was at the Wyoming Cemetery, with military services. The clergyman was the Rev. Doug Holmgren of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Pallbearers were Robert Eads, Monte Coon, Mark Buckner, Lyle Willert, Edward Ruley and Robert Fowler.

Anderson was born in Bitt, Iowa on February 5, 1908 to Oliver and Martha Jane Sackett Anderson. The family moved to Wyoming, Iowa where he attended area schools. After farming for several years, he worked in Clinton and Des Moines.

On June 5, 1936 he married Elna Roberts in Rock Island, Illinois. In 1942 they moved to Evansville, Indiana.

After serving with the US Navy during World War II on a destroyer in the South Pacific, he returned to Evansville in 1946. He was employed there as a mechanic until 1973 and following his retirement, they moved to Oxford Junction.

Mayor Anderson was a member of the American Legion, Wapsie Post No. 473; Zealous Lodge, AF & AM, Scottish Rite and Heidi Temple Shrine, Indiana.

In addition to his wife, survivors are two brothers, Floyd of Milan, Illinois; and Charles of Moline, Illinois and two sisters, Mrs. Lillian VonSprecken, Hawthorne, California and Mrs. Francis Bahnsen, Oxford Junction. Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother and four sisters.
