Funeral services were held for Chester V. Rouse, 57, of Lost Nation on Saturday, July 12 at 10:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial was at Clarence Cemetery. The Rev. R. J. Sigwarth was officiating clergyman. Military services were conducted at the cemetery by Victory Post, No. 286 of Clarence. The scripture service was Friday evening at the Hayden Funeral Home, Oxford Junction.

Mrs. Ron Nowachek was the organist.

Pallbearers were Jim Rouse, Terry Rouse, Randy Rouse, Tom Rouse, Jr., Steve Brinkman and Mike Brinkman.

Chester Rouse died Wednesday, July 9 at the Jackson County Public Hospital, Maquoketa. He was born on April 23, 1923 at Hopkinton to Chester and Florence Gerlick Rouse.

He graduated from the Oxford Junction High School and then served in the U.S. Navy from November 6, 1942 to February 6, 1946.

He then worked as a mechanic in Clarence and later owned a business there. He worked as a carpenter until February, 1979.

On September 23, 1967, he was married to Betty Averill at Rock Island, Illinois. They lived in Mt. Vernon until 1979, when they moved to the Oxford Junction and Lost Nation area.

Surviving is his wife of Lost Nation; his mother of Clarence; four step-children, Sharon Young, Nancy Jane Bergen, Harold Stradt, jr. and Peggy Ann Allen; six grandchildren; four brothers and five sisters.

Preceding him in death was his father.
