MONTICELLO - Funeral services for Earl Louis Pierce, 63, Cedar Rapids, former Monticello plumber, were held Friday afternoon, April 14, at Goettsch funeral home, Monticello. Interment was in Oakwood cemetery. The Rev. Allen S. Van Cleve officiated.

Mr. Pierce died April 11 at his home in Cedar Rapids following an illness of several months. He had been employed as a plumber with Cashman Plumbing and Heating for the past eight years. Prior to this time he had been a plumber in Monticello.

He was born near Anamosa July 27, 1904, the son of Hosea and Nina Evertson Pierce. He attended the Anamosa area schools. He married Anna Behrends, who preceded him in death April 26, 1947. On March 20, 1949, he married Ruth Barnts Simmons.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Donald of Fort Dodge, Richard, Roger and Raymond, at home; six step-children, Mrs. Edward (Beverly) Fitzpatrick and Mrs. Ray (Shirley) Ehlts of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Howard (Velma) Boots of Central City, Robert Simmons of Atkins, James Simmons, with the Air Force in California, and Lyle Simmons, with the Air Force in Okinawa; 11 step-grandchildren; two brothers, Clifford of Waterloo, and Clayton of Cedar Rapids; and one sister, Mrs. Iola Worden of Olin.

Pallbearers were Herbert Barnts, Jr., Richard Behrends, Raymond McDonald, Herman Behrends, Phillip Dart and William Behrends.
