MONTICELLO - Funeral services for Mrs. John Poppe, 75, were held Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 8, at Wayne Zion Lutheran church; rural Monticello. Interment was in the Wayne Zion cemetery. The Rev. Luther Wachholz conducted the services.

Mrs. Poppe died at Johnson Nursing home, Sunday evening, Feb. 5, following a long illness.

Meta Rickels was born near Monticello June 26, 1891, the daughter of Gerd and Katharina Tobiason Rickels. She received her education in Jones county schools and was a member of Wayne Zion church.

On Dec. 12, 1916, she married John Poppe, and they farmed in Wayne township for a number of years. For the past 27 years they had resided in Amber.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Ervin of Monticello and Eugene of Amber; one sister, Mrs. Lizzie Ambuehl of Monticello; two brothers, John and William, both of Monticello.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Pallbearers were Donald Rickels, Louis Rickels, Rex Rickels, Henry Hayen, Merle Jacobsen and Leo Ambuehl.
