MONTICELLO - Funeral services were held Saturday morning at Goettsch Funeral home for Mrs. Mary Johanna Heiken with the Rev. Anton Kirkegaard officiating. Burial was in Prairie Hill cemetery. Mrs. Heiken died Thursday afternoon at John McDonald hospital after an illness of several weeks.

Mary J. Eiben was born near Monticello, Sept. 19, 1881, the daughter of Gerd and Christine Von Besten Eiben. She attended the Jones county rural schools.

She married John Heiken July 4, 1899 and the couple farmed in the Monticello area until 1927 when they moved to Monticello to make their home. The couple were the parents of a son and two daughters.

Mr. Heiken died Sept. 6, 1941 and for the past 10 years Mrs. Heiken had been employed by Ricklefs Dry Goods store.

Survivors include a son, Henry, Scotch Grove; a daughter, Mrs. H. E. (Bernice) Husman, Monticello, a sister, Mrs. Matilda Martin, Manchester; 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Heiken was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter Helen Heiken Hoag, three sisters and eight brothers.

Pallbearers were Harold Eiben, Ben Eiben, Ernest Heiken, Paul Schmidt, George Balster, Gerhard Schmidt.
