Services for Ethel Rice Courtney, 92, were held July 21 at the North Madison Pioneer Cemetery in Center Junction, with the Rev. Clifford Rogers officiating.

Mrs. Courtney died May 7 in California, where she had been a resident for the past 25 years.

Born in Scotch Grove, Mrs. Courtney had served as a teacher, welfare worker and owner-manager of a rest home in Grundy Center. She was also a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her daughters, Mrs. Miriam Piercey of Medina, Tenn., and Mrs. Evelyn Dewey of El Cajon, Calif. She is also surviving by five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and a cousin, Ethel Sinclair of Monticello.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo, in 1924.
