MONTICELLO - Funeral services for John Henry Behrends, 75, were held at St. Matthew Lutheran church Jan. 10 at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Anton Kirkegaard officiated at the services. Burial was made at Oakwood cemetery.

Mr. Behrends died Jan. 6 from a sudden heart attack at his farm home near Monticello. He was born May 28, 1890 at Monticello, the son of Ben and Margaretha Hayen Behrends. He attended the Jones county rural schools. He had farmed near Monticello his entire life and since 1925 with his brother Ben. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Grace Schatz and Mary Behrends.

Survivors include three brothers Ben and Wilke of Monticello and George of Webster, S.D., and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Freese of Monticello.

Pallbearers were John Prull, Duane Thollen, Robert Wahl, Richard Mardorf, Duane Freese and Roy Reuter.
