MONTICELLO - Talka Katie Slemmer, former Monticello resident, died March 11 from a heart attack at the Muscatine Lutheran home where she had resided since Dec. 9, 1962.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, from St. Matthew Lutheran church. The Rev. Anton Kirkegaard officiated. Burial was in Oakwood cemetery.

She was born Aug. 15, 1887 at Monticello, the daughter of Diedrick and Catherine Hinrichs Dirks. She attended the Jones county schools and was married to Adolph Slemmer of Monticello Feb. 24, 1909. They farmed near Monticello until Mr. Slemmer's death Sept, 29, 1914, when she moved to Monticello. She was employed for a number of years at the Hoag Duster company. She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran church.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Elmer (Augusta) Drexler of Monticello; one grandson; two great-grandsons; one brother, George Dirks, Hopkinton; two sisters, Matie Schoon and Anna Olmstead. Two sisters preceded her in death.

Pallbearers included Elwill Null, Larry Himes, Raymond Peters, Tobias Hinrichs, Ray Rieniets and Robert Like.
