MONTICELLO - Funeral services for Forrest A. Ely, 73, were held Tuesday afternoon at First Presbyterian church, Monticello. The Rev. John Benj. Wild officiated. Burial was at Oakwood cemetery. Masonic services were conducted at Goettsch Funeral home Monday evening by Burns Lodge, AF&AM.

Mr. Ely died Oct. 9 at Marion after an illness of several weeks. He was born near Monticello, Feb. 12, 1893, the son of Rueben and Jane Schneider Ely. He attended Jones county schools.

He married Ann Moore, Feb. 14, 1914. The couple lived near Monticello, where they engaged in farming until retiring eight years ago. Since then he had served as township assessor.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian church and Burns Lodge No. 173 AF&AM.

Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Paul (Wanda) Meier of Monticello, Mrs. Leo (Maxine) Aldrich of Marion and Mrs. Oliver (Barbara) Hutton of Monticello; one sister, Mrs. Earl Sherman, Viola; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were John Fitzsimmons, Paul Guyan, LaVern Nagel, Theodore Rieniets, Joe Messerli and Leonard Hosch.
