MONTICELLO - Funeral services for Lestus Lewis Kuhns, 85, were held Wednesday afternoon at Wayne Zion Lutheran church, rural Monticello, with the Rev. Luther Wachholz officiating. Interment was made in Wayne Zion cemetery.

Mr. Kuhns died May 1 at Johnson Nursing home after an illness of several weeks. He was born Sept. 10, 1880 near Prairieburg, the son of William R. and Margaret Hayne Kuhns. Shortly afterward the family moved to the Scotch Grove community.

He received his education in the Jones county schools and farmed near Scotch Grove. He was married June 12, 1912 to Nellie Marie Katharine Hinrichs.

He was preceded in death by his wife on May 25, 1929; a son, Kenneth, on May 22, 1929 and a daughter, Wilma Kuhns Zeadow on June 15, 1949.

Survivors include three sons, Myron and Galen of Scotch Grove and Kermit of Monticello; five daughters, Mrs. Renk (Lois) Eilers of Monticello, Mrs. Paul (Eunice) Allen of Onslow, Mrs. Robert (Celestia) Gerdes of Langworthy, Mrs. Merle (Greta) Aldrich of Wyoming and Mrs. Melvin (Arlene) Holub of Fennemore, Wis.

Also surviving are 28 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Grace Hinrichs of Monticello and one brother, Harry of Scotch Grove.

Pallbearers were Earl Eilers, Lynn Kuhns, Merle Gerdes, Merle Kuhns, Gene Aldrich and Tim Kuhns.
