12 August 1965 - Monticello Express

MONTICELLO - William Bert Holub, 57, died Aug. 9 from a gunshot wound at his home near Mt. Vernon. He was a former resident of rural Monticello. Funeral services will be held this morning (Thursday) Aug. 12 at 11 a.m. from St. Luke's Methodist church with the Rev. Howard J. Eldrenkamp officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery.

Born March 18, 1908, at Wyoming, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Holub. He was educated in Jones and Clayton county schools and moved to New York state with his family. He returned to Iowa about 27 years ago. He was married to the former Gertrude Guilford of Monticello, Oct. 20, 1941, and they made Monticello their home until two years ago when they moved to Mt. Vernon. He was preceded in death by his mother, two brothers and one sister.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jerry Lee of Marion, and William Glenn of Mt. Vernon; four sisters, Mrs. Morris (Elsie) Watt of Manlius, N.Y., Mrs. Elizabeth Lang and Mrs. Esther Bolls and Mrs. Frank (Mabel) Burnhoz all of Long Island, N.Y.; two brothers, Eldon of Fairbanks and George of Long Island, N.Y.; one grandson; and his father, Frank Holub of Grayville, Ill.
