MONTICELLO - Wilke Henry (Hank) Behrends died at the Veteran's hospital in Iowa City, June 30 following illness. He had been a patient there about three weeks.

Funeral services were held Saturday morning from First United Presbyterian church in Monticello with the Rev. Allan Van Cleve officiating. Burial was at Oakwood cemetery.

Mr. Behrends was born Nov. 12, 1895 near Monticello, the son of Wilhelm and Etta Ulferts Behrends. He was educated in the Delaware county schools. He was married to Vera Alcorn April 17, 1920. She preceded him in death Aug. 21, 1941.

He operated a grocery store in Sand Springs from 1924 until 1948, and in recent years had operated the Monty Dairy store in Monticello.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. John (Dorothy) Beardsley of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Edward (Elizabeth) Drake of Manassas, Va.; five grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Emma Smith of Hopkinton, Mrs. O. Prader of Monticello and Mrs. Francis Messinger of Cedar Rapids.

Pallbearers included William Welter, Irvin Gadient, John Turnis, Howard Konzen, Nick Clement and Jack Chaplin.
