MONTICELLO - Merle E. Buckner, 62, died suddenly of a heart attack Saturday evening at his home after returning from work at his shop in Anamosa.

Funeral services were Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. from Goettsch Funeral home in Monticello with the Rev. John Benj. Wild officiating. Burial was at the Forest Chapel cemetery in Anamosa.

Mr. Buckner, the son of William H. and Mattie M. Turner Buckner, was born Dec. 14, 1902 at Anamosa. He attended the schools of Jones county. On Dec. 24, 1921, he married Minnie G. Hubbard of Monticello. They made Anamosa their home and later moved to Monticello.

Mr. Buckner farmed for a time, operated the Buckner Dairy, was an automobile dealer in Monticello, and recently operated a radiator repair shop in Anamosa.

He was a member of the First United Presbyterian church, Monticello, Burns Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Monticello and the local Knight of Pythias. Masonic services were held Monday evening at Goettsch funeral home.

Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Donald of Monticello; two daughters, Mrs. Kermit (Frances) Kuhns, Monticello, and Mrs. Ronald (Barbara) Falconer, Coggon; 12 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one brother, Clair of Sacramento, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Bruce Smith of Phoenix, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.

Pallbearers were Harold Hartman, H. E. Bray, Ernest Schmidt, John Schmidt, Thomas Wolf and Roger Johnson.
