October 7, 1965 - Monticello Express

MONTICELLO - Services for Mrs. George D. Moats were held Saturday, Oct. 2, at 1:30 p.m. from First Presbyterian church in Monticello with the Rev. J. Benj. Wild officiating. Burial was made at the Scotch Grove cemetery. Mrs. Moats died at the Johnson Nursing home Sept. 30 after an illness of three years.

Gertrude R. Moats was born Nov. 22, 1884 at Elgin, the daughter of Ambrose and J. Catherine Craft Peters. On Nov. 18, 1902 she was married to George D. Moats at Clermont. They lived in Elgin before moving to Scotch Grove and the Monticello communities. She was a member of the First Presbyterian church in Monticello.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Eva Sheriff, an infant son and daughter, one sister and one brother.

Surviving are her husband, George D. Moats; two sons, Sheldon of Danville, Ill. and Reece of Wyoming; three daughters, Mrs. Donald (Wilma) Clark of Monticello, Mrs. Edwin (Georgia) Caspers of Wauwatosa, Wisc. and Mrs. Wilbert (Imogene) Doden of Monticello.

Also surviving are 20 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; one brother, Guy Peters, Spokane, Wash. and three sisters, Mrs. Lewis Martin, Mrs. George Ovenbeck and Mrs. Pearl Peters, all of Glenfield, N.D.

Pallbearers included Wesley Hanken, Olin Howie Jr., Clair Lamphier, Gary Doden, Keith Hagen and Daniel Moats.
