FRED M. LAWSON 65, a lifelong Olin resident, died June 4, 1982, at Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a long illness.

Funeral service was held Monday, June 7, at St. Paul Methodist Church, Olin, with the Rev. Fred Richardson officiating. Lori Mapel was organist, pallbearers were Clyde Taylor, Loren Mortvedt, Mearl Eiler, Ralph Brendes, Bernard Switzer, and honorary pallbearers, Elmer Meyer and Keith Taylor. Burial was in the Olin cemetery.

Legionnaire Hilbert Stolte presented the flag to the family.

Fred was born March 10, 1917, at Olin, son of Edgar and Enid McGuire Lawson. He graduated from the Olin High School in 1935, after which he attended Iowa State College, Ames, and graduated from the Tipton Junior College. On Dec. 22, 1941, he married Alice Busching at Moscow Mills, Mo. They were the parents of one son, James.

Fred was in the U.S. Air Force from 1942-46. He was radar instructor at Boca Rotan Field, Fla., and also worked with the experimental radar systems. Following his discharge, he operated an electrical and plumbing business in Olin until 1951, when he moved to the farm near Olin which he operated until recently.

He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Blayney-Miner Post of the American Legion, the Ancient Landmark Lodge No. 200, and the Cedar county Farm Bureau.

Surviving are his wife, his son, his mother, who is a patient at a Clarence nursing home; one brother, Arno, Olin; and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Baker, Windom, Minn. He was preceded in death by his father.
