Services were held for Fern Johnston, 72, of DeWitt and formerly of Oxford Junction at 1:30 on Tuesday, January 20, at the Hayden Funeral Home, Oxford Junction. Burial was at Mayflower Cemetery. The Rev. Doug Holmgren of St. Mark's Lutheran Church officiated at the services.

Pallbearers were Neal Bright, Ferdinand Burda, Glenn Regennitter, Charles Wiedenhoff, Otto Koranda and Ervin Hansen.

Visitation was at the Hanrahan Funeral Home, DeWitt and at Hayden Funeral Home.

Mrs. Johnston died Saturday, January 17, at the DeWitt Community Hospital.

She was born March 3, 1908 at Oxford Junction to Otto and Anna Herbstruth Ziehlke.

She graduated from Oxford Junction High School and then received training as a beautician in Cedar Rapids. She moved to DeWitt in 1934 and operated a beauty shop from that time until her death.

She married Albert Johnston in the early 1940's.

Preceding her in death was her husband and mother.

Survivors include her father, Otto Ziehlke of Oxford Junction.
