MONTICELLO - Funeral services for Samuel Moncrief, 88, were held Saturday afternoon at Goettsch Funeral home with the Rev. Howard Eldrenkamp officiating. Burial was in Scotch Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Moncrief died Nov. 4 at John McDonald hospital following an illness of several months. He was born July 12, 1876 at Center Jct. and attended Jones county rural schools.

He and a brother Robert farmed for many years near Center Jct. before moving south of Monticello. He was married Sept. 15, 1955 to Cora Griggs, who survives.

Also surviving are three step-children, Mrs. Stanley Synek and Mrs. Cliff Fye, of Cedar Rapids, and Dale Griggs, Talihani, Okla.; a brother, Sherman, Idaho Falls, Idaho; three nieces, Mrs. William Moore, Mrs. Hattie Tedrow and Mrs. Thomas Coates, all of Monticello, and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

Pallbearers were Irvin Eilers, Louis Rickels, William Meade, Harold Meade, Frank Dawes and Harry Prull.
