Mrs. Edward Burke, jr., 29, of Cedar Rapids, a former Wyoming girl, died Saturday at 2 a.m. in Mercy hospital, Cedar Rapids, from injuries received in an automobile accident which occurred Christmas eve at the junction of Highway 151 and 261, about four and a half miles southwest of Anamosa. Six other persons were hurt.

It was Jones county's sixth traffic fatality for 1947.

Headon collision between cars driven by Mrs. Burke's husband, 30, and Edward Reiter, 18, Cascade, happened at 8:45 p.m. Highway was not icy and driving condition were about perfect, according to Sheriff Henry Eichhorn who investigated the accident.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Burke were taken to Mercy hospital, Anamosa, but were later removed to the Cedar Rapids hospital. Mrs. Burke suffered pelvic injuries, a crushed chest and head injuries. Her husband, who sustained head injuries, was reported Tuesday to be in good condition.

Riding with Reiter were Ralph J. Tegler, 25, Grinnell; Mrs. Tegler, 23, Richard Jurt, 19, Cascade, and Melvin O'Shea, 18, Monticello. All were taken to Mercy hospital, Anamosa.

Kurt was released the following day and Mrs. Tegler on Friday. Reiter and O'Shea left the hospital on Saturday, and Tegler, Sunday.

Dead woman and her husband were returning to Cedar Rapids after visiting Mrs. Burke's parents at Wyoming.

Funeral service for Mrs. Burke was held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Monahan funeral home, Cedar Rapids, with Rev. A. W. Chihak officiating. Burial was in Mount Calvary cemetery.

Crystal French, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William French, Wyoming, was born April 5, 1918, at Wyoming where she attended the school. She was baptized in the Catholic faith before her death. She was married to Edward Burke on Aug. 30, 1947, in Monticello.

She is survived by her husband; her parents; three children, Sharley, 10, Larry, 8, and Lana, 6, by a previous marriage; two brothers, Lumyr at home and Emil in the army, and two sisters, Willine at home, and Mrs. Harry Boots, Cedar Rapids.
