October 30, 1947 - The Anamosa Journal

Funeral service for Mrs. A. J. Beam, 87, former Anamosa resident, will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Smykil Home for Funerals, Rev. C. A. Bell, Clinton, will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery.

Mrs. Beam died Tuesday at her home in Independence, Mo.

Funeral service for Mrs. James Alonzo Beem, 87, former Anamosa resident, was held Saturday morning in the Smykil Home for Funerals. Rev. C. A. Bell, pastor of the Church of the Latter Day Saints, Clinton, officiated. Burial was in Riverside cemetery.

Mrs. Beem died on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at her home in Independence, Mo., where she lived the last four years.

Hymns, "No Night There" and "Saved by Grace" were sung by Mrs. V. P. Owen and Miss Marion Hale, with Mrs. Glen Russell as accompanist.

Casket bearers were Myles Larson, H. R. Betzer, Donald Welch, Robert Welch, Harold Dragoo and Howard Dragoo.

Mrs. Beem, daughter of John and Sarah Joslin, was born near Anamosa, on Feb. 7, 1860, and lived most of her life in this vicinity.

She was married in 1881 and became affiliated with the Church of the Latter Day Saints in 1911.

She is survived by two sons, Cassius Beem, Hollywood, Calif., and Ray Beem, Independence, Mo., and three daughters, Mrs. Albert Welch, and Mrs. Maude Larson, Independence, Mo., and Mrs. Earl Dragoo, Martelle; 25 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.

Cassius and Ray Beem and Mrs. Welch and Mrs. Larson were here for the funeral.
