Funeral service for Howard M. Remley, 53, Mason City, brother of James E. Remley and former Anamosa resident, who died Sunday morning, June 15, at Rochester, Minn., was held Tuesday morning in the First Baptist church, Mason City.

Burial rites were held in Anamosa at 4 p.m. this Friday at Riverside cemetery with Rev. Walter D. Wigger, Baptist pastor, in charge.

Mr. Remley, son of the late Judge Howard M. and Mary Underwood Remley, was born in Anamosa on Sept. 22, 1893.

He was graduated from the Anamosa high school, received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the State University of Iowa in 1916 and his LL.B. in 1919. He was a member of the Phi Alpha Delta law fraternity, at the university's law school.

Since 1919 he had been associated in the practice of law with his cousin, Remley J. Glass.

Active in civic affairs he held the office of referee in bankruptcy for many years. He also served as police judge and justice of the peace, and was a president of the Cerro Gordo county Bar association.

Mr. Remley was known for his efforts in the preservation of Clear Lake.

He had many lodge affiliations. He was past exalted ruler of Mason City lodge, 375, B.P.O. Elks; past district deputy grand exalted ruler of Iowa, N.E., B.P.O. Elks, and was a member of Benevolence lodge 145, A.F & A.M., and the Euchre and the Cycle club.

During World War I, Mr. Remley served as a lieutenant in the infantry. He was a member of Clussen-Worden post 101, American Legion.

In addition to his brother, James, he is survived by five other sisters and brothers, Miss Bertha Remley, Miss Agnes Remley and Miss Elsie Remley, all Seattle, Mrs. Clara R. Yenter and Robert G. Remley, Webster City.

One sister, Mrs. Mary Browning, and two brothers, Arthur L. Remley and Alfred G. Remley, preceded him in death.

He was ill three weeks in St. Mary's hospital, Rochester, prior to his death.
