October 12, 1964 - The Anamosa Journal

Mrs. H. J. Mayberry, 81, Anamosa, died Friday, Oct. 9, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Allan Siebels following an illness of several weeks.

Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 1, at 1:30 p.m. at Zion Evangelical Lutheran church, rural Monticello. Rev. Luther Wachholz conducted the services. Burial was in Wayne cemetery. Goettsch Funeral home, Anamosa, was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers included Louis Zumbach, Dale Atwood, Glenn Sterling, Richard Murray, Dean Edwards and Gene Plueger.

She was born Amelia Zickler, Feb. 1, 1883, daughter of Frederich Zickler and Wilhelmina Lindner Zickler, Fayette county, Iowa.

She was married to Gerhard Brokens, June 18, 1903 at Arlington, Iowa. Couple made their home on farms near Arlington and in Cass township, Jones county, until his death July 1, 1920.

She was married to H. J. Mayberry on Feb. 21, 1939. He preceded her in death on May 2, 1947. She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran church and a life member of the Ladies Aid society. She attended Putnam township school in Fayette county.

Survivors include a son, Henry Brokens, Monticello; three daughters, Anna, Mrs. Merle Atwood; Celena, Mrs. Allan Siebels and Edna, Mrs. Ray Plueger, all of Anamosa.

Others include two step-children, Everett Mayberry, Anamosa; and Mrs. Paul Wible, Carmichael, Calif.; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by one son in infancy, and a daughter, Mrs. Minnie Ulferts in 1958.
