June 18, 1964 - The Anamosa Eureka

Mrs. Joseph R. Lambert, 33, was killed in an accident three miles east of Marion on Highways 64 and 151 last Monday at 4:20 p.m.

Wife of the principal of Anamosa high school was killed as her husband was driving the family car home with their four children when a Corvair driven by David Unforth, 23, San Francisco, crashed broadside into them on the bridge.

Funeral service for Mrs. Lambert will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the St. Paul's Lutheran church in Anamosa. Rev. LaVerne C. Beener will conduct the services. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery at Manchester, where his father is superintendent of schools.

Principal Lambert, 33, suffered a broken jaw, crushed lower portion of his face, and knee lacerations. He is listed in good condition at Mercy hospital in Cedar Rapids.

Three of the four Lambert children are listed in good condition at St. Luke's hospital.

They are Nancy, 10, who suffered a fractured arm and lacerations; Joseph, jr., 8, head lacerations and possible internal injuries; and David, 6, fractured hand and dislocated hip. Fourth child, Tom, 4, was treated and released after the accident.

Unforth is listed in fair condition at Mercy hospital. He received internal injuries and facial lacerations.

Casketbearers for Mrs. Lambert will be Supt. James Poulter, Junior High Principal; J. B. Hungerford; Elementary Principal, Dale Hackett; Robert George, industrial arts instructor; Dr. Earl Wahl, president of the school board; and Galen Robertson, husband of Mr. Lambert's secretary.

Mrs. Lambert was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Brownson, Monona. She was born Aug. 26, 1931, near McGregor. Couple was married at Monona on Aug. 27, 1953.

Mr. Lambert is a graduate of Monona high school and State College of Iowa, Cedar Falls. Couple started their married life at Bode where he taught.

He spent four years at Twin Rivers Community school from 1954 to 1960 as principal and coach before coming to Anamosa in August, 1963. He received his M.A. degree in School Administration at the University of Iowa, Iowa City in 1959.

Survivors in addition to her family are her parents, one brother and four sisters.

They are Daniel Brownson, Astoria, Ore.; Mrs. Rachel Hoth, Farmersburg; Mrs. Jeanette Pace, Blounstown, Fla.; Mrs. Eloise Burdick, Waukon.
