December 12, 1946 - The Anamosa Journal

OLIN - Funeral service for Mrs. W. O. Cruise, 60, who died Sunday in an Anamosa hospital after a two months' illness, was held Wednesday afternoon at the Olin Evangelical United Brethren church.

Mrs. Cruise was president of the Blayney-Miner Unit of the American Legion auxiliary.

Surviving are her husband; one son, Wallace, Olin; two sisters, Mrs. Vera Ireland, Morley, and Mrs. L. E. Blythe, Martelle; three brothers, Archie V. Wood and Gerald Wood, Olin, and Hobart Wood, Spokane, Wash., and four grandsons.

OLIN - Last rites were held Wednesday afternoon at the Evangelical United Brethren church for Mrs. Olga Olive Cruise, 60, well known resident of Olin for a long period of years and former school teacher, who died Monday, Dec. 8, at the Mercy hospital in Anamosa. The Rev. W. T. Boston had charge of the rites and burial was in the Olin cemetery.

Mrs. Leon Stivers sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Goodnight and Good Morning," accompanied by Mrs. Louis Rohwedder. Pallbearers were Claus Hansen, Ed Kreger, Rolly Luckstead, Louis Schladetzky, Ernie Hartwig, and Leon Stivers.

She was born on Aug. 2, 1886 in Hale township, a daughter of the late Ambrose and Louisa Jane Wood and, with the exception of a year in Texas, had spent her entire life in Jones county. After graduating from Olin high school, Mrs. Cruise taught school two years. She was married on Nov. 28, 1906 at Olin to William Cruise.

Mrs. Cruise was a member of the United Brethren Ladies Aid and president of the Blayney-Miner unit of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include a son, Wallace Cruise, her companion for 40 years, four grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Vera Ireland of Morley and Mrs. Crystal Blythe of Martelle, and three brothers, Archie and Gerald Wood of Olin and Hobart Wood of Tacoma, Wash.
