DAN E. VORHIES

Monticello

Dan E. Vorhies, 80, of Monticello, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family.

Visitation will be held from 9 to

11:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 13, at Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello.

A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at noon at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello, with the Rev. Paul Baldwin officiating.

A private family burial will be in SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Clear Creek Township, Keokuk County, Iowa.

Dan was born on June 19, 1941, in Lockridge, Iowa, the son of Carroll and Esther (Hollander) Vorhies. Dan graduated from Fairfield High School in 1959 and Parsons College in 1963. He was a member of the Iowa National Guard 224th Engineers. He married Carol Hammes on Jan. 30, 1965, in Fairfield, Iowa.

Dan's career spanned four decades in industrial machinery as district sales manager for Allis-Chalmers. He invested many years volunteering. He was a member of the Monticello Men's Chorus, Camp Fire, coaching Little League, Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, Monticello School District Foundation, Sacred Heart Church and Camp Courageous. He served as board member of many of these organization earning numerous awards.

Blessed with 56 years of marriage, Dan and Carol enjoyed life with family and friends. They valued church activities, vacations, company trips, hunting, grandchildren events, coffee outings, card club and Dodger and Hawkeye games. Family filled Dan's life with love that the challenges of Parkinson's disease cannot overshadow. Dan will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Dan is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Sue (Todd) Manternach and Chris (Randy Harris) Vorhies, both of Cedar Rapids, and Bill (Megan) Vorhies of Riverside; grandchildren, Cole (Hannah) Manternach, Ashlyn (Breon) Hawthorne, Darby Manternach and Reese Manternach, Sydney and Ally Harris, and Wil, Dan, Carol and Marie Vorhies; great-grandchild, Keenan Hawthorne; and in-laws, Marie Hammes, Jim Hammes, Rose (Dave) Bollei, John (Rhonda) Hammes, Barb (Jim) Hammes and Mary (Tony) Webb.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Wendell (Rose) Vorhies; nephew, Terry Vorhies; and in-laws, Norbert Hammes and Steve Hammes.

Memorials are preferred to Camp Courageous of Iowa, Jones Regional Parkinson's Support Group or Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
