5 December 1964 - The Anamosa Journal

MONTICELLO - Funeral service for Fred W. Helgens, 69, who died Saturday, was held at the Wayne Lutheran church Monday. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery. He had been a resident of Wayne township all of his life.

Surviving are his wife; a son, Harvey, at hme, and three grandchildren.

12 December 1946 - The Anamosa Journal

WAYNE - Funeral service for Fred W. Helgens, 69, who died Nov. 29 at his home near Scotch Grove following an attack of heart disease, was held Monday, Dec. 2, at a Monticello funeral home and at Wayne Lutheran church.

Burial was in Zion cemetery. Rev. F. H. Kehren was the officiating pastor. Pallbearers were Alva Collman, Herman F. Zimmerman, Edwin Helgens, Elmer Folkerts, Bennie Tobiason and Lyle Tobiason. Mrs. Johanna Danneman played the organ. Singers were George Rieken, Mayeda Folkerts and George Harms.

Frederick William Helgens, son of Harm and Anna Tobiason Helgens, was born Sept. 17, 1877, in Wayne township. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

On June 11, 1906, he was married to Grace Tobiason at Wayne. One son, Harvey, was born to the union.

Surviving are his wife, his son, three grandchildren, Delores, Dean and Marlene Helgens; his mother, his brothers and sisters, Mrs. William Collmann, Prairieburg; Mrs. J. Henry Zimmerman, Monticello; George Helgens, Scotch Grove; Mrs. Alfred Folkerts, Rhinehart Helgens, Herman Helgens, Ed Helgens, Louis Helgens and Mrs. Henry Tobiason, Monticello; Mrs. Carl Siebels, Anamosa, and Mrs. Will J. Zimmerman, Amber.
