OLIN - Death of Kenneth Hay, 38, was pronounced suicide by County Coroner F. L. Harrington, Monday.

Hay's body was found by his father-in-law, Roy Moreland on the Hay farm south of Olin about 7 a.m. Monday. He had left the house about 6 a.m. When he failed to come to the house for breakfast after being called several times, Mrs. Hay became alarmed and called her father who lives nearby.

The coroner said the farmer had apparently shot himself with a .410 gauge shotgun which was laying near. Hay had bullet wounds in the side and the head. An empty shell was laying on the ground and one was in the barrel of shotgun.

Despondency over ill health was believed to be the motive for the suicide.

Funeral service was held Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist church in Olin, Rev. William Strait officiating. Burial was made in the Olin cemetery.

He was born Dec. 24, 1908 in Jones county.

Surviving are his wife, Marguerite; a daughter, Marilyn; a son, Bernard; his mother, Mrs. W. E. Hay, Anamosa, and a brother, Carl Hay, LaPorte City.
