Mrs. A. G. Hejinian died Thursday at 7 a.m. at Mercy hospital, Anamosa, where she was taken last Saturday. Mrs. Hejinian had been in failing health for a number of years.

Body is at the Smykil Funeral home. Funeral arrangements are pending the arrival of Mrs. Hejinian's children, John, who is associated with the Chase National bank, New York City, and Lucea, Mrs. C. W. DeKiewiett, Ithaca, N.Y. They are expected to arrive in Anamosa Thursday afternoon.

Mrs. Hejinian was Miss Bertha S. Stacy before her marriage Sept. 14, 1898, to the famed Anamosa surgeon. She was the daughter of Judge John S. and Charolotte A. K. Stacy, Anamosa and Jones county pioneers.

She was graduated from Cornell college art department and took post-graduate courses in the Chicago Art institute and Cowles School of Art in Boston, Mass. For several years she was head of the art department of Simpson college, Indianola.

She accompanied her late husband in travels throughout Europe and Asia in the early 1900's when he studied in London, Berlin and Vienna.

Dr. Hejinian was surgeon in charge of Mercy hospital for a number of years and was a leader in his profession.

Funeral service for Mrs. A. G. Hejinian, 76, who died early last Thursday at Mercy hospital, Anamosa, where she had been a patient for several days, was held at four o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Anamosa Congregational church.

Rev. David M. Beggs, Hampton, former Anamosa pastor, conducted the service. He was assisted by Rev. Barney Crockett, Anamosa. Mrs. Glen Russell played the organ and singers were Mrs. Vince Owen and Miss Florence Hale.

Burial was made at Riverside cemetery. Pallbearers were: Dr. A. N. Trevarthen, Dr. H. F. Dolan, O. T. Ruhe, M. C. Crispin, Dr. B. F. Erb and C. B. Jessen.

Members of the P.E.O. society attended the service in a group.

Bertha Sybil Stacy, daughter of Judge John S. and Charlotte A. Kellogg Stacy, was born Feb. 3, 1870, at the home in Anamosa now occupied by Dr. and Mrs. J. G. Perkins.

She received her early education in the Anamosa schools and graduated from high school in 1889. Her parents were pioneers of the community. Mrs. Hejinian was a direct descendant of Governor William Bradford and John Alden of the Plymouth colony.

She graduated from the Cornell college art department and took post-graduate courses in the Chicago Art Institute and Cowles School of Art in Boston, Mass.

For several years she was head of the art department of Simpson college, Indianola, Iowa.

One of her students at Simpson college was George Carver, the famed negro. Mrs. Hejinian kept in touch with Dr. Carver through correspondence all of her life, and sent him painting supplies from among her own.

Sept. 14, 1898, she was married to Dr. Aram Garebed Hejinian, at Anamosa. Dr. Hejinian was at the head of Mercy hospital for a number of years and one of Iowa's most noted early surgeons. They moved to the present residence at the corner of Cleveland and First streets in 1911.

She was a lifelong member of the Congregational church, and during the years when her health permitted, an active member of its various associated organizations. She was superintendent of the primary department of the Sunday school for more than 20 years.

Mrs. Hejinian was both generous and a promoter of education, and through her efforts several young people were enabled to attend college. She was also a generous contributor to the mission projects of the church.

She was also a member and held offices in the P.E.O. society, Order of Eastern Star, D.A.R. and the Fortnightly club.

One of her hobbies of late years was her flower garden.

She is survived by her two children, John, New York City, and Lucea, Mrs. Cornelis W. deKiewiet, Ithaca, N.Y., and a brother, William Kellogg Stacy, Coeurd'alene, Idaho.

Her husband, parents, a brother, Eugene Stacy, and a sister, Marian Skinner, preceded her in death.
