11 June 1964 - The Anamosa Eureka

Eleven month old Bradley Joseph Teyner was killed late Tuesday afternoon when a driverless semi-trailer truck smashed into the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Teymer, 203 South Elm St., Anamosa.

Mrs. Teymer and two-year-old Steven, who was playing in the utility room with his brother, were not injured. Mrs. Teymer was in the kitchen off the utility room and said she saw the runaway truck owned by Albert Kray, Anamosa, seconds before it crashed into the home. Steven ran out of the room just as the vehicle smashed through the wall at 5:30 p.m. Last rites were given by a priest passing by.

Funeral services for Bradley Teymer will be held Thursday, June 11, at 2:30 p.m. at the McNamara Funeral home.

Cab and low boy trailer were parked facing downhill on Crane street about a football field length away from the Teymer home. Rig began rolling, crossed the street, went through a vacant lot and careened into the northeast part of the house, just missing an apple tree on the left and a clothesline on the right by inches. Wire fence at the Teymer home was ripped down.

Paul Hinz, 603 W. Crane, said he was walking out of his house as the trailer slowed rolled past. "I looked twice and didn't see anyone driving, so I ran after it to try and stop it, but it was going too fast for me to open the cab door."

Cab of the trailer had to be jacked up to take the boy's body from under the left front wheel. When the trailer was pulled from the wreckage, the motor was in running condition, and authorities found the brakes in working order. At this time, they have no idea how the vehicle parked in mid-afterrnon broke loose.
