Funeral services for Mrs. John Turnis, who passed away at her home in Monticello on Sept. 2, were held this morning at 9:30 a.m. from the Sacred Heart church. Rev. Eugene Lorenz officiated at the solemn requiem high mass. The pallbearers were six of her grandsons, John and Faye Hostert, John and George White, and John and Robert Turnis. Burial was made at the Sacred Heart cemetery.

Mrs. Turnis, a daughter of Nicholas and Katherine Even Muller, was born in Jo Daviess county, Illinois, Aug. 24, 1865. At the time of her death Mrs. Turnis was 81 years of age. At the age of four, she moved with her parents to a farm west of Monticello.

On June 3, 1885, at the Immaculate Conception church in Castle Grove, Katherine Muller Turnis was married to John Turnis of Cascade. The couple lived on a farm north of Monticello for five years and then moved to Cascade where they resided for the following 12 years. In 1902 they moved to a farm northeast of Sand Spring, living there until Mr. Turnis' death on the 29th of April, 1932. After Mr. Turnis' death, Mrs. Turnis moved to Monticello and was a resident here until the time of her death.

Mrs. Turnis is survived by the following children: Mrs. L. F. White, Monticello; Sister (Mary) Catherine de Riccie of LeSeur, Minn.; Mrs. Chris Hostert, Peosta; George, Frank and Fred, Hopkinton, and Mrs. Joseph Sherlock of Worthington. Three children preceded her in death. She is also survived by 32 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. John Kurt, Sr., and two brothers, George and Ed Muller of Monticello.
